In 2007 the Education Advisory Board awarded seven project grants to the following projects:
Harvest Park Middle School, Pleasanton, East County - $30,000.00 to build an Alternative Energy Learning Lab Teaching Greenhouse that is solar powered, and the students will experiment with alternative sources of energy with the focus on renewable sources
SF Environment, Food to Flowers, San Francisco, West County - $14,000.00 to raise diversion rate of 15 schools to 50% or greater by the end of the 2007-2008 school year
Chabot Space and Science Center, Oakland, West County - $50,000.00 a year for three years, totaling $150,000.00, an intern program that will build experiences with teen and college student internship programs and provide interns with valuable career awareness in waste management as well as giving them training and real world experience in informal environmental education for youth K-12
Grass Roots Recycling Network (GRRN), Cotati, West County - $42,025.00 to conduct two one-day workshops for communities within Alameda County targeting recycling managers, recycling professionals, and other government managers within the EAB service area
Earth Team Environmental Network, The Can-Do-Crew, Berkeley, West County - $22,000.00 The Can-Do-Crew will train 12 teenagers in how to create engaging and informative videos on the topic of recycling. Following the training, The Can-Do-Crew will film 8 short monthly television segments about recycling
Oakland Asian Students Educational Services (OASES), Oakland, West County - $20,000.00 for the OASES Fabulous 4R’s workshop, this will empower 215 youth and 100 parents in 2007-2009 to take action on the 4R’s so they can encourage teachers, and peers to practice the 4R’s
East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, Oakland, West County - $50,000.00 with a goal to ensure that Alameda County educators continue to have access to local reuse center that offers low-cost supplies, materials and resources for educators and to aid in the ecological “green” renovation of the new store, and to also ensure that the new location is educator friendly.
A total of $228,025.00 was awarded from the project grant total funding allocation of $230,000.
